SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:
Please read the following carefully. If based on the guidelines you are
ready to screen, please complete and submit the information noted under "
Screening Requirements".
Each candidate must meet
ALL of the following criteria prior to screening:
_____ 1. Complete a minimum of 45 semester
hours of coursework that meet the degree requirements of the University;
_____ 2. Achieve a cumulative grade
point average of 2.65 on a 4.0 scale;
_____ 3. Make a grade of C or higher in
English 102;
_____ 4. Successful completion of EDUC
202 with a grade of C or higher;
_____ 5. Successful completion of EDUC
203 with a grade of B or higher;
_____ 6. Successful completion of EDUC 210
with a grade of C or higher (Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education majors only);
_____ 7. Successful completion of PEES
219 (Physical education majors only); and
_____ 8. Satisfactory completion of PRAXIS
I (PPST) and/or other state mandated examinations (student must have scores reported to Lander
University) .

Screening Requirements
In order to be scheduled for a screening appointment, a candidate must complete the
following:
Step 1:
_____ Successfully meet the above requirements 1-8;
_____ Complete & submit
the online screening application ;
E-application
(not available)
_____ Print, have
completed, and submit one Character Reference; (
Character Reference
)
_____ Print a current
transcript using BearCat Web and submit;
All screening materials (PRAXIS I scores, submitted online application, Character Reference,
and copy of transcript) must be received in the office
one month prior to the screening date – refer to website for screening
dates.
Step 2:
Screening:
each candidate must demonstrate competence in writing by completing a writing
assessment and demonstrate competence in oral communication by completing an interview in order to
be accepted into the Professional Program.
On the scheduled screening date, candidate must report to the lobby area of the Department of
Teacher Education no later than 2:45 p.m. At this time, you will be briefed on procedures
regarding the writing portion of the screening process (see rubric online) – unless this
requirement was completed and passed in EDUC 202. After the writing exercise, candidate must
remain in the lobby area until he/she is called in for an interview (see rubric online). All
candidates will be notified in writing regarding the results of the screening.

Maintenance in the Professional Program
Once admitted into the Professional Program, in order to remain in good standing the candidate
must meet these criteria:
1)
Maintain a
cumulative grade point average of 2.65 or higher;
2)
Maintain a grade
point average of 2.75 or higher in all professional education courses (300 and 400 levels);
and
3)
Achieve a grade of
B or higher in each clinical setting.
