independent groups. Lander University does not award these scholarships, and in many cases, we do
not have any information other than what is listed below. The list is sorted alphabetically by the
name of the organization or group. In the case of a scholarship named for an individual, the
listing is alphabetized by the last name.

American Chemical Society
The American Chemical Society sponsors scholarship programs for qualified minority applicants
who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering, and students
seeking a two-year degree in chemical technology. The programs are designed to encourage
African-American, Hispanic, and American Indian students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in
the chemical sciences and chemical technology. The goal of these scholarship programs is to aid in
building an awareness of the value and the rewards associated with careers in science and to assist
students in acquiring the skills and credentials needed for success in these areas.
The amount of each individual award will depend upon the availability of funding, the number
of scholarships awarded, and evidence of financial need. Scholarships will be given up to a maximum
of $5,000 per year. The awards in the ACS Scholars Program, as well as those in the co-sponsored

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Scholarships
Scholarships for Minority Accounting Students
The AICPA Scholarships for Minority Accounting Students provides competitive awards to
outstanding full time undergraduate minority students at regionally accredited institutions to
encourage their: selection of accounting as a major, entry into the profession and ultimately
achieving the CPA designation. For purposes of this program, the AICPA defines minority
students as those of Black, Native American, Pacific Island races, or of Hispanic ethnic origin.
All applicants must be U.S. citizens.
The maximum award is $5,000.
To be eligible for a minority undergraduate scholarship, applicants must:
- be a declared accounting major (this must be indicated on your transcript) with an overall and accounting grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.3;
- have satisfactorily completed at least 30 semester hours, or 45 quarter hours, or equivalent college work, including at least six semester hours (or equivalent) in accounting; and
- be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (12 semester hours or equivalent) at an accredited institution.
All applicants are required to submit a letter of recommendation from either a faculty member

Archibald Rutledge Scholarship
The Archibald Rutledge Scholarship encourages and recognizes academic and artistic excellence.
Students compete for scholarships in creative writing , drama , music , and visual arts .
Awards: One-time scholarship - approximately $4,000.
Eligibility: Twelfth-grade students enrolled in a South Carolina public school and
planning to attend a state college or university are eligible to participate in the scholarship
competition. Jointly produced compositions are not eligible. Students receiving the scholarships
must be United States citizens who have attended the state’s public schools for the past two
consecutive years. High school student enrollment determines the number of entries a school can
enter in each discipline area.

ASCO Numatics
Awards: ASCO Numatics will award two $5000 scholarships to graduate or
undergraduate engineering students pursuing careers in manufacturing, processing, or other
industrial automation related disciplines. Additionally they will make a $1000 grant to the
engineering departments of the colleges in which the winners are enrolled.
Eligibility: Must be enrolled full-time in and undergraduate or graduate program
in engineering, instrumentation, systems, electrical, mechanical, or automation discipline at an
accredited US educational institution for the 2009-2010 academic year.. You must have
completed your sophomore years of your bachelor's degree at the time of application. You must
have a t least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be a US citizen or legal US resident.

Byrd, Robert C. Scholarship
The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program promotes academic excellence through federal
funds.
Awards: The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of a United States Department of Education grant and is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Byrnes, James F. Foundation Scholarship
Since the first scholarships were awarded by Governor James F. Byrnes in 1949, more than 985 young South Carolinians have been assisted in obtaining a college education.

The Center for Scholarship Administration, Inc. is an independent, non-profit,
scholarship administrative service that, in conjunction with leading businesses, individuals, and

Clapper, Anne Scholarship
The Greenville Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications is accepting
applications for the Anne Clapper Scholarship. The organization will award a $500 scholarship
to a student of any gender who is a rising college senior and pursuing a career in the
communication industry. The scholarship will be awarded at the Chapter's annual Matrix awards
on May 22. The scholarship was established in 1996 to honor Anne Clapper, who founded the
chapter in 1991. Anyone interested in applying for the scholarship should log onto the the

C.G. Fuller Foundation Scholarship
C.G. Fuller Foundation scholarship is available to SC residents attending a SC college or
university. The scholarship is available to current high school seniors entering the first
year of college. Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA, at least 1100 on the SAT, and have a
family income under $60,000. Deadline: April 1st. An

Greenville Ad Club Scholarship Program
The Greenville Ad Club (GAC) Scholarship Program consists of a $1000 scholarship to be awarded
August 1st of each calendar year. Funding of this annual scholarship comes from the Bill
Leslie Advertising Education Memorial Fund, which is associated and supported by the Greenville Ad
club. This is a one-time award. The student must be a rising college senior as well as
pursuing an education degree as a full-time student accepted at an accredited college, university,
or communication-related education institution. Scholarship applications may be obtained
through the office of the guidance counselor, any Southeast college or by contacting the Greenville

Greenwood Housing Authority
The Greenwood Housing Authority is accepting applications for the Carolinas Council of
Housing, Redevelopment, & Codes Officials (CCHRCO) and South Eastern Regional Council (SERC)
Scholarship Program. These scholarships are open to any member of a household who resides in Public
Housing or under the Section-8 program and is pursuing a higher education.

Gyles, John Scholarship
The John Gyles Education Awards are available each year to students in both Canada and the
U.S. They are the result of a private, benevolent endeavor established in 1990 with the help of a
Canadian/American benefactor. Full Canadian or American citizenship is a requirement. Awards are
available to both male and female students for all areas of post-secondary study. A minimum GPA of
2.700 is required. Criteria other than strictly academic ability and financial need are considered.
Selected students will receive up to $3000. Filing dates for mailing applications are April
1, June 1, and November 15, annually.

The Hispanic College Fund is a nationwide, non-profit organization dedicated to developing the

The Institute's 2001-2002 budget provides $175,000 in financial aid for students through two scholarship programs. IMA student members may be eligible for scholarship awards of up to $5,000. King, Jr. Martin Luther Scholars Program
The U.S. Department of Education issued a press release on the first year of the Martin Luther
King Scholars Program, through which as many as 10 outstanding undergraduate or graduate students
with an interest in education policy or public policy will be selected as ED summer interns. The
deadline for submitting applications is March 8.
Komen, Susan G. Foundation Scholarship
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of five
scholarships valued up to forty thousand dollars each. Each scholarship would award a maximum
of $10,000 annually to pay for tuition, books, fees and on-campus room and board. In order to
be eligible, applicants must be the children of a parent who has died from breast cancer, live in
Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Laurens, Greenville, Greenwood, Pickens, Oconee, McCormick,
Spartanburg or Union county, exhibit financial need, and plan to attend a state-supported college
in their state of residence. The mission of the Komen Foundation is to eradicate breast
cancer as a life-threatening disease through research, education, screening, and treatment.
The Foundation believes that breast cancer affects not only the individual. This Award is one
way we recognize that affect and address the resulting needs.

Pearce, Jim and Mary Scholarship
Beginning in 1985-86, Easter Seals of South Carolina began offering Jim and Mary Pearce
Scholarships from its Endowment Fund. The purpose of these scholarships is to enable deserving
students who are disabled to complete their college education and become productive
citizens.
Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited two- or
four-year institution in South Carolina. Preference will be given to South Carolina residents.
Preference will be given to students carrying at least 9 hours and who are making satisfactory
academic progress toward graduation. For purposes of these scholarships, disabled students
are defined as those having some type of significant and medically certified mobility impairment. A
statement from the physician will be required and must be dated within the past year. Annual
scholarships will generally not exceed $1000. Financial need must be demonstrated by
completion of the FAFSA.
Applications are available in the Office of Financial Aid. Deadline to apply is June 14th.
Academic transcript, including spring semester grades, must accompany the application.
Police Corps Program (www.ojp.usdoj.gov/opclee/)
The Police Corps is a U.S. Department of Justice program designed to address violent crime by
increasing the number of officers with advanced education and training who serve on community
patrol. Typically, they serve in low-income, high-crime urban areas or isolated rural areas.
A student enrolled full-time in a four year college pursuing a bachelors degree in any major (not
just criminal justice) is eligible for up to $7,500 per year ($30,000 maximum) in scholarship.
Also, a student in school in one state may apply to join the Police Corps and serve four years as a
Police officer in another state. For example, a student at Penn State University may apply to any
participating state Police Corps program such as the Missouri Police Corps or the Florida Police
Corps.
The Pope Scholarship Award
The Pope Scholarship Award is designed for students whose studies are directed towards the mortgage banking or mortgage financing field (i.e., real estate, banking, economics). South Carolina Tax Council

- Must be a Student majoring in Accounting or taxation at a South Carolina 2 or 4 year college.
- Must be either a rising senior at a 4 year college /university or a rising second year student leading to an Associates Degree in Accounting at a 2 year college or technical college.
- Average GPA no less than 3.0 overall (on a 4.0 scale).
- Average GPA in accounting no less than 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
Applications must be received complete with all attachments by May 15 in order to be
considered. Scholarships will be awarded in June for the Fall Semester. A check will be mailed to
you, payable to your school, before September 1st. Recipients will be invited to attend the June
luncheon of the South Carolina Tax Council, which will be held during the Summer Seminar.
Amounts of scholarships range from $500 to $1,000. The total amount to be awarded each year is
decided by the SCTC Board of Directors and depends upon the number of qualified applicants.

Stillman-Kelley Award
The National Federation of Music Clubs competition for the Stillman-Kelley Award will be held.
The audition is open to pianists or orchestral instrumentalists. The South Carolina winner
will receive the Cornelia Freeman Award of $200 and will submit a tape to the National Competition.
The National first place award is $1,000; second place is $500 and separate Thelma Byrum award in

Applicants must be:
- Dependent children, stepchildren, or legally adopted children of Army soldiers on active duty, retired, or deceased while on active duty or after retirement.
- Registered in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS).
- Unmarried for the entire academic year.
- Under the age of 22 on June 1st after the year for which you are applying.

- The South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs will hold auditions for the Cornelia G. Walker Scholarship on Feb. 21, 2004 at Columbia College. This scholarship is open to graduationg high school seniors only who are planning to major in music at a SC college. This scholarship is for voice or instrumental majors and can be retained for four years. The deadline for application is Feb. 17, 2004.
Ward, Lucile Parrish Veterans Award
The Lucile Parrish Ward Veterans Award and is being given by the National Federation of Music
Clubs. Available to any veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States and whose service in
the military caused a delay in the pursuit of a music career. The amount of the award is
$2,000. Those eligible should have a high school diploma or GED. Also, applicant must
have been accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in pursuit of an
undergraduate degree, Masters Degree or Doctoral degree in the field of music.

Wiesel, Elie-- Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity
Since 1989, the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity has sponsored the Prize in Ethics Contest.
The annual competition is intended to challenge undergraduate juniors and seniors in colleges and
universities across the United States and Canada to analyze ethical questions and concerns facing
them in today's complex society. All students are encouraged to write thought-provoking, personal
essays.
Eligibility:
- Must be a registered undergraduate, full-time junior or senior at an accredited college or university in the US or Canada.
- Essays must be 3000-4000 words, in which students are encouraged to raise questions, single out issues, and identify dilemmas. The essay may take the form of an analysis that is biographical, historical, literary, philosophical, sociological, or theological. Essays may be written in formal or informal voice, but most importantly, and individual voice should be represented within the essay. Essays must be the original, unpublished work of the student and only one essay per student per contest year may be submitted.
- Students must complete a Contest Entry Form along with their Faculty Sponsor. Any interested professor may act as a Faculty Sponsor and endorse the quality and authenticity of the student's essay.
- In addition, students must include a letter from the Registrar verifying their full-time enrollment for the Fall semester.
