How do I get involved with intramurals?
I am so glad you asked that question. Well, there are several ways to get involved with intramural sports:
- Take charge and be a team captain - Usually this is an outgoing person who doesn’t mind making a few phone calls or rounding up some players. An intramural captain's responsibilities are not too demanding really. They must simply obtain a roster and put their team member’s names on it. Next, put the completed roster in the IM sports roster box, located outside of the campus recreation office - PEES 241. Then, they need to show up (or send someone) to the captain's meeting at its specified day and time. After that, all they have to do is make sure their team knows when the games are. A smart captain would probably let his/her teammates know that they can view the schedule 24 hours a day on this website. That is the minimum required to be a captain. Some captains do get their team together practice or discuss strategy.
- Be recruited by a captain - So, you're walking to class minding your own business and out of nowhere one of your friends comes up and asks you to play on his/her intramural team. You have just been recruited to play intramurals team.
- Be a part of an organization - Many campus organizations set up intramural teams together. Usually someone from these clubs and organizations is designated to be the team captain. Fraternities, sororities, athletic teams, residence halls, faculty/staff, club sports teams, students with the same major or even the chess club can join in the intramural fun. Residence halls have sign ups on all the hall bulletin boards to make it convenient for on campus students. It is a great way for members of clubs and organizations to get to know one another and form a little camaraderie and unity along the way.
- Be a free agent - So, you're not a part of an organization and you don't really know anyone at Lander yet. That's alright, because intramurals is a great way to get to know people and get some exercise in the process. You can sign up on the free agent list in the campus recreation office - PEES 241. Free agents will all be put on a team together or will help the faculty/staff team.
- Become an intramural employee - Campus recrecreation department offers numerous job opportunities through its intramural program.
So, now you know how to get involved - be a captain, be recruited by a captain, join an organization or become a free agent.
It matters not how you get involved, just get involved because it is free and fun for current students, faculty and staff!
