Campus Initiatives

 

·          Lander University makes strides for the future by going "green" on campus.   Lander University is committed to adopting environmentally-friendly building strategies and “green” initiatives that promote a healthier atmosphere for students, employees and the entire community.   Lander’s newest dorm, Centennial Hall is certified by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

·          Beautiful, healthy trees do more than provide shade for the budding scholars on a university’s campus. They also serve as a living laboratory for area botanists and gardeners of all ages, who can use the campus to study the tremendous variety of flora that thrive in the local environment. That is one of the reasons why the Lander University Arboretum Committee was created and one of the reasons why the group is working to build a diverse collection of native and non-native plants and trees throughout the campus.   Click here to read more…

 

·          By eliminating the use of tobacco anywhere on campus, Lander University was the first university in South Carolina to go tobacco-free indoors and out when the policy took effect in the fall semester of 2007.  The health of Lander students, staff, faculty and visitors was at the heart of the decision to go totally tobacco-free.

President Daniel W. Ball said the policy supports the university’s wellness program, which has been formulated in accordance with the Healthy Campus 2010 guidelines established by the American College Health Association.
